Run for Your Life!

Jeremiah 21:1-10

What do you do when a tsunami is coming?

The Audacity (1-2)
Zedekiah vs. Nebuchadnezzar

Zedekiah “gets religion” and “turns to God”

God’s wonderful deeds in the past

God is not mocked

The Anger (3-7)
Quite the opposite of what they asked for

In anger, and fury, and great wrath

Evading the reality of God’s wrath:

1) OT vs NT?

2) Only talk about the “positive”?

3) Simply deny it?

The Answer (8-10)

I set before you the way of life and the way of death

An example from the past

An example from the future

An application for right now

Believers: Remember Lot’s wife! … Come out of her my people!

Unbelievers: Flee from the wrath to come.

Run! Run for your life!

The Hound of Heaven

Jeremiah 20:9

“I fled Him, down the nights and down the days …”
Jeremiah suffers abuse and strikes out at God

“I quit!”
I will not mention him, or speak any more in his name

Why quit speaking?

“I can’t stop.”
There is in my heart as it were a burning fire, shut up in my bones
Cf. Amos 3:8    1 Corinthians 9:16   Acts 17:16-17

What is this fire?

  • Subjectively (What did Jeremiah feel?)
  • Objectively (What made Jeremiah feel this way?)

“I surrender!”

I am weary with holding it in, and I cannot
Cf. Jeremiah 6:11

The best person to speak God’s judgment and wrath

Do not run from God:

  • Salvation
  • Sanctification
  • Service

“Rise, clasp my hand, and come!”

Deeply Rooted

Jeremiah 17:5-8

Root systems
How is anyone to survive and thrive in this troubled life?

Doomed to Destruction
Cursed

The man who trusts in man

                  Trusting in oneself

                  Trusting in humanity

Whose heart turns away from the Lord

The result of trusting in man

Secure in the Savior
The theme of the Bible: Trust God to save you and strengthen you

Blessed

The man who trusts in the Lord

The result of trusting in the Lord

Send your roots deep!

Pastor Richard C Klueg

Here Come the Trolls!

Jeremiah 18:18

The anti-God trolls
Jeremiah in the house of the potter

Attack the Messenger
Come, let us make plots against Jeremiah

Trolls gang up on you

Trolls are devious

Trolls attack the person, not the issue

Contradict the Messenger
Open denial of God’s message

The priest with the law

The wise with his counsel

The prophet with the word

Q: Is America resting on a firm foundation of righteousness, or hanging by an ever-weakening thread of God’s mercy?

Shut Down the Messenger
Let us not pay any attention to his words

Safe spaces, trigger warnings, and micro-aggressions

“Stop trying to shove religion down my throat.” Seriously?

Don’t let the anti-God trolls get to you!

Sermon outline for Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017

Pastor Richard C. Klueg

The First Sermon

Acts 2:22-24, 37-41

What makes a good sermon?

God’s Man
Jesus—
a man attested to you by God

God’s Plan

Delivered up

According to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God

You crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men

God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death,

because it was not possible for him to be held by it

God’s Command
repent and be baptized

Save yourselves from this crooked generation

Now “the ball is in your court”
