The Medium and the Message

2 Corinthians 6:3-4b

"The medium is the message" - Marshall McLuhan

Authentic

We put no obstacle in anyone's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry

This does not mean:

  • I have to be sinless to speak for God
  • I should soften the message so people will not be offended

The obstacles could be:

  • Hypocrisy
  • Scandal
  • Lack of Love

Authoritative

As servants of God

You are a spokesman for God

Active

We commend ourselves in every way

Romans 10:13-15

I Didn't Sign Up for This

2 Corinthians 4b-5

Actually, yes, you did: Luke 9:23-24

by great endurance - the apostle's "hardship catalogue"

1. The Struggles
in afflictions, hardships, calamities

  • Because of being a Christian
  • Plural
  • To be endured

There are 2 ways to end a war: By winning, or by surrendering

2. The Strikes
beatings

imprisonments

riots

To live for Christ is to be "in the strike zone."

3. The Sacrifices
labors

sleepless nights

hunger

"If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." - Luke 9:23

The Perfect Storm of Grace

2 Corinthians 6:1-2

“I love it when a plan comes together”

The perfect storm

Teamwork

… with himWorking together

Our need: Power from God

  • You have to be there
  • You have to dare
  • You have to be in prayer

Target

You must have a goal

Our target: Profound change
we appeal to you not to receive the grace of God in vain

Some situations in which God’s grace comes in vain

Timing
In a favorable time I listened to you, & in a day of salvation I have helped you.
Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Isaiah 49:8

The nature of the situation demands that we be prompt in our response.

Missing the day of salvation:

  • Death
  • Judgment Day
  • Hardened Heart

I love it when God’s plan comes together!
